When is IVF needed?
IVF can be used to treat infertility in the following patients: Blocked or damaged fallopian tubes. Male factor infertility including decreased sperm count or sperm motility. Women with ovulation disorders, premature ovarian failure, uterine fibroids, pelvic endometriosis ,and aging.
How long does it take for one cycle?
It takes about three weeks to complete one cycle of IVF. Ovarian stimulation will start from second day of period ,continue for 7-8 days before eggs are ready for trigger shot. Egg collection will be scheduled 35 hours after trigger shot .Embryo transfer will happen 5 days later.
How many embryos should be transferred into uterus?
We recommend that only one embryo is transferred per cycle with a maximum of two depending upon the individual circumstance. This is to prevent multiple births.
What is the process of IVF?
During conventional IVF, fertility drugs are used to overstimulate the ovaries, so they mature several oocytes or eggs. Then, these eggs are retrieved with an ultrasound-guided needle through the vaginal wall under intravenous sedation. The eggs are fertilized by ICSI procedure. After they reach blastocyst stage, one embryo are transferred to uterine cavity.
What can I do to increase my success after IVF program?
Lifestyle choices are a major factor. You should reduce your alcohol intake, stop smoking, eat healthily, take plenty of exercise, reduce stress and have enough sleep. Whilst men will benefit from ensuring their scrotum is not restricted with tight underwear nor overheated.
Can patients have sexual intercourse during the treatment?
Sex during the stimulation phase of an IVF cycle is acceptable as long as the couple is using a form of barrier contraceptive, such as a condom. In the event ovulation was to occur unexpectedly, especially from multiple follicles, we want to avoid the possibility of multiple pregnancy.
Does age influence the chance of pregnancy?
There is no real age limit for women undergoing In Vitro Fertilization as long as the woman has not gone through. Many women in their 40s have the IVF procedure although positive results at this age are not very high .The chance of success become lower when woman are older than 36 years old.
How many times can a couple try IVF treatment?
There are no limits to the number of IVF cycles you can have. Some couples have had more than 10 IVF cycles, while others have stopped after their first cycle This decision is entirely up to you and the fertility specialists.
How long can I store frozen eggs/sperms/embryos for use in future treatment?
Typically, you can only store your eggs, sperm or embryos for five years. In cases where you might be undergoing medical treatment or have premature infertility, you can discuss longer storage option with your consultant.
How long after my IVF cycle before I find out if I’m pregnant?
The pregnancy test is detecting HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin hormone) , which is produced by the trophoblastic cells after implantation ,about 11 days after embryo transfer.
